About Mendip Lavender
Our Story
Mendip Lavender has been growing and distilling lavender since 1999, when Jon and Jenny Turner began planting fields on their farm in the beautiful Mendip Hills of Somerset. From those first rows of lavender came a much-loved local brand — one rooted in craftsmanship, landscape, and care for nature.
All of our lavender is grown without pesticides, fertilisers or fungicides, and is harvested by hand. We use traditional steam distillation and pure Mendip water drawn from a borehole high on the hills to produce our essential oil and hydrosol. Each batch matures before being blended into our range of natural soaps, creams, and home fragrances, all made by hand with carefully sourced ingredients.
After 25 years of nurturing Mendip Lavender, Jon and Jenny passed the reins to Rick Freeman, who continues the work from The Old Sawmill, Home Farm, Barrow Gurney — while lavender is still grown and harvested on the Mendip Hills.
Rick brings his background in botanical distillation and natural product development, having grown and distilled organic lavender, rosemary and herbs in Cornwall, and previously founded the Somerset beverage company Lovely Drinks, known for its award-winning recipes. Through his company, Lovely Developments, Rick now combines a love of herbs, purity, and craftsmanship to evolve the Mendip Lavender range — introducing new creations that stay true to its roots.
Mendip Lavender continues to supply customers and stockists across the UK, bringing the calm beauty of Somerset lavender to homes, shops and studios alike.
